About the role

Responsibilities: Manage a variety of client matters from initial consultation through to resolution, including drafting and reviewing contracts, preparing legal opinions, and handling complex transactions or disputes. The role also involves representing clients before courts, tribunals, and regulatory agencies, as well as engaging in negotiations, mediations, and settlement discussions. Supervise and mentor junior associates and support staff in the firm, ensuring high-quality legal work, research, and adherence to deadlines. Responsibilities also include impactful legal research, staying current with applicable laws and regulations. Contributing to the firm’s practice and business development initiatives, as well as supporting the firm’s strategic and operational goals. Requirements: Strong academic record with a minimum of a second class upper division Bachelor’s degree in Law. Minimum 7 years post call experience and active practice in a similar role within a reputable law firm or in-house legal department. Proven experience handling complex matters in one or more key practice areas (e.g., litigation, corporate/commercial law, dispute resolution, regulatory compliance, real estate, or energy and infrastructure) Strong legal drafting and review skills, including the ability to prepare contracts, pleadings, opinions, and advisory documents with precision and clarity. Excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret legislation, case law, regulatory frameworks and provide practical, client-oriented advice. Demonstrated advocacy and negotiation skills, including experience appearing in court or before tribunals and engaging in settlement or commercial negotiations. Leadership and people management abilities, including supervising junior colleagues, providing constructive feedback, and fostering a collaborative team environment. High level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality, with strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple matters simultaneously with little or no supervision. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly to clients and stakeholders. Proficiency with MS Offce Suite, standard office software and legal research tools; comfortable working with digital document management and case management systems. Willingness to work on-site in Abuja or Port Harcourt and, when required, travel for client meetings, hearings, or transactions. Additional qualifications, such as an LL.M., relevant professional certifications, are an added advantage. Location: Abuja and Port Harcourt
